For my Grandchildren, they listened, we laughed and made believe

It was a cold, misty dark night, when Jossel heard a crunching noise outside his bedroom window. He pulled back the curtain (they did not have shades in Jachupitzville), and the cold came right through the the thin glass.

What could have made that noise he wondered, everything seem so still and quiet. A thick blanket of snow covered every thing in an spooky white silence. If there was something outside, he was sure he would have seen it.

So back to bed went Jossel, his feet freezing cold after having been out of bed, hardly did he pull up the covers , when that terrible crunch sound came again even loader than before. This time he was sure that it was not a bad dream, there was something out there. Back to the window again, but still nothing to see, this was starting to get scary. Jachupitzville was a small village and these sort of things did not happen there.

The next morning Jossel told his friend Barney Bagel about the strange noise and Barney said "I heard it as well, we need to walk around the back and see if we can discover the noise maker". So the two boys put on their heavy sheep skin coats, sheep skin hats, Ugg boots and went to try and solve the riddle. Jossel said " Boy I hope a wolf won't see us, he will think we are sheep"

Slowly the boys crept around looking for clues. Suddenly their blood turned cold, (It can happen in very cold icy weather when you get scared). There on the ground were the biggest, ugliest, smelliest, nastiest, super gross paw prints in the whole world. They must have been made by a monster,and look, it had eaten all the carrots they were saving for Shabbat Chollent.

Now every body in the Jachupitzville knew how important Chollent was for Shabbat, in fact the Rabbi once said where is the Chollent?, Shabbat without Chollent is like swimming without water

We have to save Shabbat, Barney told Jossel, but what could it be that is making these biggest, ugliest, smelliest, nastiest, super gross paw prints in the whole world. I know said Jossel letÌs look in the Encyclopaedia, (That is a book that was used to find research things before computers were invented, in Jachupitzville, did you not know.Well they looked up animals, and then animals feet and there on page 345825 was a picture of the biggest, ugliest, smelliest, nastiest, super gross paw prints in the whole world. Underneath the picture was a name "Polar Bear"

Polar Bear - Snow white in colour , weighs 500lbs, 12ft high, favourite foods, fish, carrots and green peas. Polar Bears can dive into a frozen lake and swim in the ice cold water forever.

Wow said Barney in Yiddish, we should ask the Rabbi, everyone asks the Rabbi when they have a problem.

OiVey said the Rabbi, and OiVey-Vey said his wife,the Rebbitzen, what are we going to do, such a wilda chaia with the biggest, ugliest, smelliest, nastiest, super gross paw prints in the whole world we have never seen before We must set a trap the boys said together.The whole village is terrified.

What will you use for bait an where will you get a cage big enough asked the Rabbi,You can't use carrots said the Rebbitzen, we already don't have enough for Chollent. Please be careful said the Rabbi and if you catch the wild chaia with the biggest, ugliest, smelliest, nastiest, super gross paw prints in the whole world and please don;t bring it into the cheder.

That night Barney Bagel and Jossel set up an ambush. They went out onto the frozen lake, took an axe and a handful of green peas. The chopped a huge hole in the ice, and took a handful of green peas and placed them carefully around the large hole in the ice. They then dressed in their sheepskin coats, sheepskin hats and Ugg boots, and hid behind a large snow bank and waited.

They waited and waited for a very long time and were getting very cold, even with their sheepskin coats, sheepskin hats and Ugg boots. Suddenly they heard CRUNCH, CRUNCH, CRUNCH, The bear was on his way and they were ready to put their plan into action. The bears nose was twitching, he could smell his favourite treat, green peas. As he came closer making the crunching noise with his biggest, ugliest, smelliest, nastiest, super gross paws in the whole world, he saw the green peas and his beady eyes lit up. He rambled over, and as he bent over to take a pea, the boy's jumped out from behind the snow bank and "kicked him in the ice hole". The bear fell into the lake and started to swim and did not stop until he reached Canada.

Well the whole village of Jachupitzville came out to cheer, the boy's were made national hero's. As a reward Jossel was given his official second name, The Rabbi, the Mayor and all the elders of the village decreed that Jossel was to be known by all as Jossel Chollent

Every one in Canada were also very grateful to Barney Bagel and Jossel Chollent for sending Polar Bears to visit Vancouver on their way to the North Pole.
